Drain Maurice Mazone of Irmo and Clinton Raymond Donaldson of Columbia have been sentenced to federal prison for their involvement in a drug conspiracy. Mazone received a sentence of 13 years, while Donaldson was sentenced to three years.
Investigators found that the conspiracy began in Arizona, where drugs were purchased and shipped to Mazone for distribution. Donaldson provided local addresses for receiving packages and assisted with distributing the drugs. The proceeds from these sales were sent back to Arizona. Authorities reported that packages containing drugs were mailed not only to Columbia but also to Florence, Myrtle Beach, North Carolina, Maryland, and Florida. All four individuals involved in the conspiracy have pleaded guilty and received sentences.
United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis imposed a sentence of 156 months’ imprisonment on Mazone followed by five years of court-ordered supervision. Donaldson was sentenced to 36 months’ imprisonment followed by three years of supervision for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute crack cocaine, five kilograms or more of cocaine, 400 grams or more of fentanyl, and marijuana. There is no parole in the federal system.
The investigation was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation. OCDETF focuses on disrupting major drug traffickers and criminal organizations through coordinated efforts among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies using an intelligence-driven approach. More information about OCDETF can be found at https://www.justice.gov/OCDETF.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney William K. Witherspoon is prosecuting.
