South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the arrest of two Sumter residents, Calvin H. Carraway, Jr., 57, and Aaron Matthew Rivera, 21, on a total of 12 charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. The arrests were made by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators from the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office in separate cases.
The investigations began after CyberTipline reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led authorities to Carraway and Rivera. According to investigators, Carraway is accused of distributing and possessing files containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM), while Rivera is accused of distributing such files.
Carraway was taken into custody on October 22, 2025. He faces one count of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor—a felony that carries up to 10 years in prison—and nine counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, each also punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment.
Rivera was also arrested on October 22, 2025. He is charged with two counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, with each count carrying a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
Both cases will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office. Multiple agencies assisted in these investigations as part of the state’s ICAC Task Force, including the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Sumter Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations.
Attorney General Wilson emphasized: “All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
The press release notes that CSAM (child sexual abuse material) is now used instead of “child pornography” because it more accurately describes the nature of these crimes and avoids implying consent by minors.
