Jalik Shykeil Tucker, a 30-year-old resident of Sumter, South Carolina, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute significant quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, and crack cocaine. The plea was entered in federal court.
The investigation began in March 2023 when the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office started working together after receiving information about Tucker’s alleged drug activities. According to authorities, narcotics investigators from Richland County conducted several undercover purchases of methamphetamine and fentanyl from Tucker over three weeks.
Law enforcement identified two locations in Sumter County and one in Richland County that were allegedly used by Tucker for distributing drugs. Search warrants were obtained for all three sites. During these searches, police found more than $25,000 in cash—including funds used by officers during undercover operations—along with methamphetamine, fentanyl, fluorofentanyl, firearms, heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, digital scales, baking soda (used for making crack cocaine), sandwich bags (used for packaging drugs), and an electric mixer also linked to drug distribution.
Tucker could face up to life in federal prison if convicted on all charges. He also faces a fine of up to $10 million restitution and a five-year term of supervision following any imprisonment. United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis accepted the guilty plea and will determine sentencing after reviewing a report prepared by the U.S. Probation Office.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration along with local sheriff’s departments from Richland and Sumter counties. Assistant U.S. Attorney William K. Witherspoon is prosecuting the case.
