South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the arrest of Michael Castre Button, 18, from Summerville, South Carolina. Button faces four charges related to the sexual exploitation of minors. The arrest was carried out by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators with the Goose Creek Police Department. The investigation also involved personnel from the Attorney General’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations, both members of the state’s ICAC Task Force.
The case began after investigators received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Authorities allege that Button distributed files containing child sexual abuse material.
Button was taken into custody on September 5, 2025. He is charged with four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree (§16-15-405), which is a felony offense punishable by up to ten years in prison for each count.
The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute this case.
Attorney General Wilson stated: “All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
* Child sexual abuse material, or CSAM, is considered a more accurate term for these crimes than “child pornography,” as it reflects that children cannot consent to such acts. The term CSAM is being adopted globally to replace “child pornography” because the latter can wrongly imply consent.
