South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the arrest of Corben Paul Campbell, 23, from Summerville, South Carolina, on charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. The arrest was carried out by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators from the Attorney General’s Office, who are also members of the state’s ICAC Task Force, assisted in the investigation.
The investigation began after a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) directed authorities to Campbell. According to investigators, Campbell distributed and possessed files of child sexual abuse material.
Campbell was taken into custody on August 15, 2025. He faces one count of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree (§16-15-405), which is a felony offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison. He also faces four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the third degree (§16-15-410), each carrying a potential sentence of up to 10 years imprisonment.
The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute this case.
Attorney General Wilson stated: “all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
The term “child sexual abuse material” (CSAM) is used to more accurately describe material involved in such crimes, as opposed to “child pornography,” which can incorrectly suggest that minors were consenting participants. Globally, CSAM is replacing older terminology for this reason.
