South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has commended the state House of Representatives for passing H.4760, a bill that prohibits abortion-inducing drugs.
Wilson issued a statement following the vote: “South Carolina has been clear: we will protect life. Mailing abortion pills with fewer safeguards, no real medical oversight, and no accountability puts women at risk, harms families, and devalues human life. I applaud the House for standing up for common sense protections and for taking another step to defend the most vulnerable.”
In recent years, Wilson has taken several actions related to abortion regulations. In 2024, he co-led a legal brief in support of North Carolina’s restrictions on prescribing and dispensing abortion-inducing drugs. In February 2023, he filed a brief challenging the Food and Drug Administration’s decision to ease safety requirements for mailing these medications. He also joined 20 other state attorneys general in 2023 in sending a letter to CVS and Walgreens asserting that distributing abortion-inducing drugs by mail was illegal.
The South Carolina Attorney General’s office serves as the primary legal advocate and enforcer in the state, overseeing prosecutions and regulatory matters such as securities and consumer protection (official website). The office works closely with law enforcement agencies statewide on criminal prosecutions and provides resources to support victims of crime (official website). Alan Wilson leads the office in its efforts across South Carolina (official website).
