Attorney General Alan Wilson of South Carolina has joined a coalition of 13 states in filing a friend-of-the-court brief opposing government-mandated COVID-19 vaccinations. The action is intended to support the right of individuals in South Carolina and other states to refuse such mandates.
“Since 2020, we have seen a concerted push to curtail personal liberty in the name of health and safety,” Attorney General Wilson said. “Personal liberty and the sacred right to be free from compelled bodily intrusion is at the heart of the American experiment.”
The brief argues that competent individuals have a constitutionally protected interest in refusing unwanted medical treatment. Alongside South Carolina, the states participating in this effort include Texas, Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, Nebraska, and Utah.
