South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson expressed approval of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision, which upheld state age-verification laws aimed at safeguarding children from harmful online content. The ruling was decided by a 6-3 vote.
“This ruling is a powerful step toward bringing order to the Wild West of the digital age,” said Attorney General Wilson. He emphasized the necessity for states to intervene in protecting children from dangerous online material, stating, “Our children are being exposed to dangerous content every day online, and states must have the ability to step in and protect them.”
Attorney General Wilson has been an advocate for such legal measures, contributing significantly to this national legal victory. His efforts included offering testimony and supporting South Carolina’s own age-verification law. His leadership helped establish one of the first laws of its kind in the nation, promoting state empowerment to implement protections for children amid rapid technological advancements.
