A federal grand jury in Greenville has indicted Marion Keith Sheriff, a 60-year-old resident of Seneca, on four counts related to filing false tax returns.

Court documents and statements reveal that Sheriff, who ran a landscaping business in the Upstate region, allegedly did not report cashed business checks as income to the IRS from 2019 to 2022. The unreported income amounts to approximately $1,006,633.

If convicted, Sheriff could face up to three years in federal prison. Additionally, he may be fined $100,000 and face one year of supervised release following any prison term. U.S. District Judge Jacquelyn D Austin is assigned to preside over this case.

The Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Watkins will handle the prosecution.

It is important to note that all charges mentioned in the indictment are accusations at this stage. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
