South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the arrest of Christopher Garrett Yarbrough, 33, from Newberry, South Carolina. Yarbrough faces one charge related to the sexual exploitation of minors.
The arrest was carried out by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators from the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office. The Attorney General’s Office, also part of the state’s ICAC Task Force, assisted in the investigation.
Authorities began their investigation after receiving a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). According to investigators, Yarbrough is accused of distributing files containing child sexual abuse material.
Yarbrough was taken into custody on October 11, 2025. He is charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree (§16-15-405), which is classified as a felony and carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute this case.
Attorney General Wilson stated: “All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
A note provided by authorities explains that child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is now used as a more accurate term for these crimes. The term “pornography” may imply consent, which is not possible in these cases. As a result, CSAM is replacing older terminology globally.
