South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that Christopher Robin Cardosi, 28, of Lexington, was arrested on three charges related to the sexual exploitation of minors. The arrest was made by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. The Attorney General’s Office, also part of the state’s ICAC Task Force, assisted in the investigation.
The investigation began after a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) led authorities to Cardosi. According to investigators, Cardosi possessed files containing child sexual abuse material.
Cardosi was taken into custody on August 14, 2025. He faces three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the third degree under South Carolina law (§16-15-410). Each count is a felony offense and carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute this case.
Attorney General Wilson emphasized: “All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
The press release notes that child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is considered a more accurate term than “child pornography” because it reflects the abusive nature of these crimes and avoids any implication that children could be consenting participants. The term CSAM is being adopted globally for this reason.
