South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the arrest of Diego Alexander Campo, 19, from Hartsville, South Carolina. Campo faces one charge related to the sexual exploitation of minors. The arrest was made by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators from the Hartsville Police Department.

According to investigators, Campo is accused of distributing files containing child sexual abuse material. He was taken into custody on January 23, 2026.

Campo has been charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree under South Carolina law (§16-15-405). This felony offense carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.

Attorney General Wilson stated, “All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”

The press release also clarified that the term “child sexual abuse material” (CSAM) is used because it more accurately describes the nature of these crimes. The word “pornography” can suggest consent on the part of the child involved. As a result, CSAM is increasingly replacing “child pornography” as a global standard term.
