South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the arrest of Daniel Scott Brothers, 44, from Greenwood, South Carolina. Brothers faces eight charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. The arrest was carried out by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators with the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators from the Attorney General’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations, both part of the state’s ICAC Task Force, assisted in the investigation.
The investigation began after a CyberTipline report was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which led authorities to Brothers. According to investigators, Brothers distributed and possessed files containing child sexual abuse material.
Brothers was taken into custody on September 2, 2025. He is charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree (§16-15-405), each a felony offense that carries up to 10 years imprisonment per count. He also faces six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the third degree (§16-15-410), which are also felonies punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment for each count.
The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute this case.
Attorney General Wilson emphasized, “all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
The term child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is now being used instead of “child pornography” as it more accurately describes materials involving these crimes. The change reflects global efforts to use terminology that does not imply consent by victims.
