A man from Greenville County has been arrested on charges related to the distribution of child sexual abuse material, according to a statement released by South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson. Adam Thomas Kirwan, 28, of Greer, was taken into custody on December 15, 2025.
The arrest followed an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office. The Attorney General’s Office, which is also part of the state’s ICAC Task Force, assisted in the investigation. Authorities were alerted after receiving a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which led them to Kirwan. Investigators allege that Kirwan distributed files containing child sexual abuse material.
Kirwan faces one count of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree (§16-15-405), which is classified as a felony and carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison. The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case.
Attorney General Wilson emphasized due process: “All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
The office of South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson acts as the chief prosecutor for the state and oversees divisions handling criminal cases, civil litigation, and consumer protection. It also provides victim support services and educational resources aimed at improving public safety across South Carolina. More information about its activities can be found on its official website.
The press release clarified terminology regarding these crimes: “Child sexual abuse material, or CSAM, is a more accurate reflection of the material involved in these heinous and abusive crimes. ‘Pornography’ can imply the child was a consenting participant. Globally, the term child pornography is being replaced by CSAM for this reason.”
