South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that Marcus Phillip Jones, 37, of Goose Creek, South Carolina, has been arrested on a charge related to the sexual exploitation of minors. The arrest was made by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators from the Goose Creek Police Department, with assistance from investigators from the Attorney General’s Office, which is also part of the state’s ICAC Task Force.

The investigation began after authorities received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). According to investigators, Jones distributed files containing child sexual abuse material.

Jones was taken into custody on August 28, 2025. He faces one count of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree (§16-15-405), which is classified as a felony and carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case.

Attorney General Wilson stated: “all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”

The release also noted that child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is now used as a more accurate term for this type of evidence. The term “pornography” can suggest consent by the minor involved; therefore, CSAM is being adopted globally to reflect the abusive nature of these crimes.
