Cederick Dion Dixon, a 38-year-old resident of Fort Mill, has been sentenced to over seven years in federal prison for illegal firearm possession. This decision was made by United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis, who imposed an 87-month imprisonment followed by three years of court-ordered supervision. There is no parole available in the federal system.
The incident leading to Dixon’s arrest occurred on January 15, 2023. A South Carolina Highway Patrol state trooper stopped Dixon’s vehicle due to a defective equipment violation. Upon inspection, it was discovered that Dixon was driving with a suspended license as a habitual traffic offender. During the search of his vehicle, authorities found marijuana and an open liquor bottle. Additionally, a backpack in the front seat contained a firearm with 9mm ammunition and various narcotics.
Dixon’s prior convictions include attempted armed robbery, unlawful carrying of a weapon, distribution of crack cocaine, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. These past offenses prohibit him from possessing firearms and ammunition.
The case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. Launched on May 26, 2021, PSN focuses on building community trust, supporting violence prevention organizations, prioritizing strategic enforcement actions, and evaluating outcomes.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Assistant U.S. Attorney William K. Witherspoon is handling the prosecution.
