South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that Jonathan Michael Cain, 43, of Florence, was arrested on seven charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. The Florence County Sheriff’s Office, as part of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, carried out the arrest.
Investigators allege that Cain possessed files containing child sexual abuse material and sent sexually explicit images to a minor. He was taken into custody on September 5, 2025.
Cain faces six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the third degree under South Carolina law (§16-15-410), each carrying a potential penalty of up to 10 years in prison. He is also charged with one count of dissemination of obscene material to a person under age twelve (§16-15-355), which could result in up to 15 years imprisonment.
The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case.
Attorney General Wilson stated: “All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
The release notes that the term “child sexual abuse material” (CSAM) is used because it accurately describes the abusive nature of these crimes. The statement explains: “Pornography” can imply the child was a consenting participant. Globally, the term child pornography is being replaced by CSAM for this reason.
