Doron Guider, a 27-year-old resident of Columbia, South Carolina, has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
The incident occurred on January 9, 2025, when Columbia Police responded to reports of a man with a handgun at an extended stay hotel on Forest Drive. Officers searched the area and visited a nearby store where employees reported that the individual, later identified as Guider, had entered. Surveillance footage showed Guider entering the store. He was found inside after changing into clothing that was for sale in the store.
Further review of security video revealed that Guider hid both his original clothing and the handgun between two pallets within the business. Officers recovered both items during their search.
Guider’s criminal record includes convictions for strong arm robbery, breaking into a motor vehicle, and two counts of possession of a firearm by someone convicted of a violent felony. These offenses make it illegal under federal law for him to possess firearms.
United States District Judge Cameron McGowan Currie sentenced Guider to 46 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. There is no parole available in the federal system.
The case was investigated by multiple agencies including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), City of Columbia Police Department, and Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lamar J. Fyall handled prosecution duties.
