Attorney General seeks answers from Silfab Solar after chemical spill near school

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has requested information from Silfab Solar in York County following a chemical spill that occurred on March 3. The incident involved potassium hydroxide, a substance known to pose health risks.

Wilson addressed concerns raised by residents and parents of children attending Flint Hill Elementary School, which is located next to the facility. “Nearby residents and particularly parents of children at the Flint Hill Elementary School next door are expressing serious and legitimate concerns regarding their safety and their children’s safety,” Attorney General Alan Wilson stated. “Our state Constitution notes that the health, welfare, and safety of lives and property are matters of public concern.”

The letter sent by Wilson highlights the complaints from community members about potential threats to their health after the spill.

The South Carolina Attorney General serves as the state’s chief legal advocate and enforcer, handling prosecutions, regulations, and consumer protection issues across the state.
