South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has begun an inquiry into recent natural gas price increases by the Clinton Newberry Natural Gas Authority (CNNGA). The move follows a series of complaints from residents about unexpectedly high gas bills after severe winter weather.
“Our office received a number of complaints from constituents regarding the recent price increases as a consequence of the severe weather events occurring this winter,” Attorney General Alan Wilson stated. “In light of the numerous complaints, CNNGA’s decision to increase natural gas rates needs to be better understood.”
The letter sent by Wilson highlights concerns from local residents who rely on CNNGA for their natural gas supply. Many expressed worry over significant and unanticipated rises in their bills. In response, Wilson has asked CNNGA to clarify its reasons for raising rates, including whether it was aware of any supply disruptions or increased demand.
