Attorney General Alan Wilson has released the 2025–2026 Parental Rights Guide, which provides parents with information about relevant federal, state, and local laws. The release comes after a recent federal court decision permitted bathroom access for a transgender student, a move that conflicts with existing South Carolina law. The Attorney General’s office is currently considering an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court regarding this matter.

Additionally, there have been reports of an elementary school teacher in Dorchester County being placed on administrative leave following the posting of violent artwork on social media. These events have occurred just as the new school year begins and highlight ongoing issues within schools.

Attorney General Wilson stated: “Attorney General Wilson is fully committed to using the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office to lead the fight to protect children and parental rights. Parents are key partners in this fight and will always be the last and best line of defense for their children.” He also encouraged all members of school communities to stay informed about their rights as outlined under both South Carolina and federal law as the academic year continues.
