Demetrius Stepp, a 45-year-old resident of Atlanta, Georgia, has been sentenced to over five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to distributing fentanyl and crack cocaine.

Court evidence indicated that in April and May 2022, Stepp sold narcotics to a confidential informant working with the Myrtle Beach Police Department on three separate occasions. While Stepp claimed he was selling heroin and crack cocaine, lab tests confirmed the substances were actually crack cocaine and fentanyl. Further investigation revealed that Stepp had been trafficking these drugs throughout Horry County for several years, often making multiple sales daily.

United States District Judge Sherri A. Lydon handed down a sentence of 70 months imprisonment for Stepp, followed by six years of court-ordered supervision. The federal system does not allow parole.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration alongside the Myrtle Beach Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Katherine Flynn and Matthew Ellis are responsible for prosecuting the case.
